Mass General Brigham SCO is a health plan for people ages 65+ who have MassHealth and Medicare. It’s easy to use because it combines the benefits you already have into one health plan with one card.

It also includes support from a care coordinator and an integrated care team. This team will work with you and your doctors to meet your care needs. You'll also get other benefits like dental and vision care, and transportation to your appointments.

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible for Mass General Brigham SCO if you:

  • Are 65+ years old
  • Are eligible for MassHealth Standard
  • Are eligible for Medicare
  • Have no other private or public health insurance
  • Live in one of these Massachusetts counties: Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Middlesex, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk

MassHealth offers different types of coverage based on your age, health status, and living situation. You can visit mass.gov to apply for MassHealth coverage. After you apply, MassHealth will determine which program or coverage type you can get. If you are selected for MassHealth Standard, you may be eligible for Mass General Brigham SCO.

Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older, or people with certain disabilities. You can find out when you are eligible for Medicare Part A and Part B on the medicare.gov website. If you are eligible for Medicare Part A and Part B, you may be eligible for Mass General Brigham SCO.

Benefit highlights

With our SCO plan, you’ll have $0 copays for doctor visits, hospital stays, and urgent care. You also get more benefits that go beyond MassHealth and Medicare.

When you enroll, we will assign a care coordinator to help you get the care you need. This person will work with you, your primary care provider, and your care team. Together, they will make a care plan for your personal health needs.

You can also call our 24/7 advice line to speak with a registered nurse about any of your healthcare concerns.

If you need more support, your care team might also have:

  • A service coordinator who can help connect you with resources in your community
  • A pharmacist who knows your prescription medications
  • Specialists and other health care providers for your health conditions
  • Social, behavioral, and other specialized supports

Pharmacy benefits

You'll pay $0 for prescription drugs on our SCO plan drug list. You can check the drug list, also known as a formulary, on our SCO and One Care Pharmacy Benefits page.

 

Over-the-counter (OTC) benefits

You'll get $300 every three months to spend on qualifying OTC products like:

  • Pain relievers
  • Cold and allergy medications
  • Vitamins and supplements
  • First aid supplies
  • Personal care items

Dental – Our SCO plan includes:

  • Cleanings and exams
  • X-rays and fillings
  • Extractions and root canals
  • Dentures and denture fittings
  • Three implants per year and one repeat tooth implant every five years

Vision – Annual eye exams are $0 for members. You’ll also get $300 a year to buy glasses and contact lenses.

Hearing – Annual hearing exams are free for members and hearing aids are covered.

Stay active at home or on-the-go with your fitness benefit. Your benefit includes $250 per year to use on wellness purchases like:

  • Membership at participating gyms
  • Fitness classes
  • Activity trackers
  • Workout equipment
  • Virtual classes

Medical appointment transportation – Our SCO plan includes unlimited rides to medical appointments.

Non-medical transportation - You also get two round trips up to 50 miles per month. You can use these trips for activities connected to your care plan, like activities in your community recommended by your care team.

Personal help programs – You may be eligible for long term support services (LTSS). These services provide hands-on care in your home. You can get help with activities like getting dressed, eating, taking a bath, and doing laundry.

How to enroll

If you're ready to enroll in Mass General Brigham SCO, you can contact our sales team. A member of the team will help you review plan benefits and determine your eligibility. If you are eligible, they can help you complete an application by telephone.

Each state has a government program with trained counselors to help you with health insurance needs. These programs are called SHIP, or State Health Insurance Assistance Program. In Massachusetts, the SHIP is called SHINE. The program is not connected with Mass General Brigham Health Plan or any insurance company.

The SHINE Program provides free health insurance information, counseling, and assistance to people who are eligible for Medicare and their caregivers. 

A SHINE counselor will help you:  

  • Understand your Medicare and other health insurance and drug coverage options 
  • Find the right coverage for you  
  • Find ways you can save money on your prescription drugs and health insurance  
  • Help you apply for programs that will lower your costs  
  • Provide information to help you make the best coverage selection
